Sun, Fun, and Pool!
In September 2011 the Bernie Russell Memorial Pool Tournament (BRMPT) was founded and is the brainchild of Kevin 'Shaggy' Miller as a warm up to the Bahamas Shootout. Shaggy saw this as an opportunity to honor a fellow pool player, Mr. Bernel "Bernie" Russell, and a singles 32-player event was created. The BRMPT has since replaced The Bahamas Shootout and is now the largest tournament in the Bahamas. In 2016 a significant change in the venue was made moving the event from the local pool room to the Grand Lucayan Ballroom, and High Country Promotions started running the tournament and providing the pool tables. Growth, comradery, and fun is a big part in this event and is what keeps us going. The fun stuff - beach parties , bonfires, snorkeling, Bahama Mamas (drinks and ladies) - are just a few off-table events you can look forward to while attending the BRMPT. In further keeping with honoring Bernie, we changed the dates from September to November and as close as possible to Bernie's birthday, November 10.
"Bernie was my teammate and a good friend and it's certainly a privilege to say I had a hand in this tournament that is so looked forward to by players throughout the Bahamas and even now from other parts of the world." Kevin Miller
This year's event we'll be giving out our 1st Gary Benson Award in honor of our friend and pioneer in the promotion and growth of organized pool tournaments in Grand Bahama.
